Your bed — blank 4′ × 8′ grid

Spacing quick reference (square-foot gardening): tomato 1 per sq ft (staked) · lettuce 4 per sq ft · carrot 16 per sq ft · bush bean 9 per sq ft · zucchini 1 per sq ft.

Print tip: fits one letter page. General guidance — adjust spacing to the varieties you grow.

How to use the layout grid

  1. Measure your raised bed in feet — most prefab beds are 4′ × 8′, which is what both templates show.
  2. Treat each square as one square foot. Tall crops (tomatoes, corn) go on the north edge so they don’t shade neighbors.
  3. Write crop initials in each square; the ×number tells you how many plants fit per square.
  4. Keep a copy each season and rotate plant families between beds to reduce soil-borne problems.
